Life Is a Lobster

This song was created for Game of Bands round 117 : "Song from a Fictional Broadway Musical"

Lyrics:

[Setup for the song]
There are ambient sound samples of clanking dishes and banging pots and pans. We hear footsteps. A snobbish sounding critic type (think of a cross between the critic from Ratatouille and Gordon Ramsey) announces that his lobster is overcooked. Enraged, our heroine yells, but calms down. The piano fades in, and she starts singing calmly.

[Slow intro]
For most of my life
I’ve worked as a cook in this the worst kitchen in North America
Which might be the worst kitchen in the WorldIt’s only slightly better than working at Mcdonald’s
And the some customers are so more annoying than my mother on a wedding day
Just to get through it
Sometimes I need to say

[Verse 1]
They say when lifve just gives you lemons
You should just make lemonade
But lemonade just doesn’t cut itis pretty sucky
When minimum wage is all you get paid

But I have realized
There’s a need to get on up
To get on up and leave your troubles all behind
Just compare
Your life is pretty fair
At least your’re doing better than this lobster isBetter than a lobster’s complete lack of care

Well you know,
Life is like a slope
You can sit at ride to the bottom or run on up to the top
You can achieve almost anything
If you put your mind to it
So, come on and

[Chorus 1]
Better get up and dance
While you still have a chance
Life is a like a lobster
You get away or you get up and dacne
Life is a like a lobster
Better get up and dance
While you can
Because you never know
When you’ll wind up in the potHow much worse it can get
When you’re stuck like a lobster put in a cage
You can succeed anyway

Life is like a lobster
You have a chance
Cause you can
Make those changes that you need to advance
Just give it time to figure out how it can work
Because this kitchen is the absolute worst

[Verse 2]
My dreams of being a movie star
Have been all but crushed before this low bar
But now I realize I can prevent
This dream being crushed, my efforts unspent

I can do better, no matter what comes my way how
Horribly my insecurities bring me down
I’ll never roast like this While i'm roasting a lobster alive in a rage because
I can think about how i can make the change

[Chorus 2]
I will Get up and DanceLife is like a lobster
While I still have a chanceGotta take a chance
Life is like a lobsterMake new decisions
You swim or you roast in a pot Maybe wear a different pair of pants?

Instrumental

[Verse 3]

Because you never know
When you’ll wind up in the pot
When you’re stuck like a lobster put in a cage

Life is like a lobster
You have a chance
Cause you can
Make those changes that you need to advance
Just give it time to figure out how it can work
Because this kitchen is the absolute worst
When you can think
Unlike that lobster with barely a consciousness
You can succeed anyway

Better get up and dance
While you still have a chance
Life is a like a lobster
You swim away or get up and dance
Life is like a lobster
So I’ll pretend it’s rad
I’ll drink my lemonade even though it tastes bad
Because pretty soon I’ll make my way
Because I need to get out of this place
[Exit]
