Painting: Judith I (Salomé) by Gustav Klimt

*** I want to note that though technically this is a painting of Judith with the head of Holofernes, it has also been attributed to the story of Salomé with the head of Saint John the Baptist. Both figures display elements of female power and rage, though albeit one in a more positive light than the other granted, but still an interesting discussion nonetheless.

Lyrics:

Tell me why I should be your dancing girl
Why should I just hand over all the world

Be careful with your beckoning
It brings along a reckoning the like
Of which you’ve never dreamed
And nothing is as it ever seems here
Watch and learn as I teach you fear

Everything wanton, everything pious
Everything you wanted in the darkness of my eyes
Whispering and covetous, the start of your lies
Wait until the denouement, someone is here to die

Everything broken, everything ground
Everything you wanted buried by sound
My decorous veil, where my feet grace the ground
Tonight, my love, someone is going down

Yes, you’re going down

Tell me do you finally know your regret
Or do you not realize what’s coming yet

Mother may I dance so sweet
Make them fall in neat little lines
Cowering glances and lustful moans
For nothing can they atone tonight
I’m here to take what’s mine by right

Everything wanton, everything pious
Everything you wanted in the darkness of my eyes
Whispering and covetous, the start of your lies
Wait until the denouement, someone is here to die

Everything broken, everything ground
Everything you wanted buried by sound
My decorous veil, where my feet grace the ground
Tonight, my love, someone is going down

You made demands and I cowed to your will
But with one flutter of my hand I command you still
Frozen you bask in the beauty of all I have to offer
Unknowing the ill fate of what it is you proffered
You’re mesmerized by the curl of lip and curl of hip I swirl
Giving up—you think—all the secrets of the world
But you’re forgetting what you’ve promised, what you’ve said
And with my bow I’ll be asking for his head

Everything wanton, everything pious
Everything you wanted in the darkness of my eyes
Whispering and covetous, the start of your lies
Wait until the denouement, someone is here to die

Everything broken, everything ground
Everything you wanted buried by sound
My decorous veil, where my feet grace the ground
Tonight, my love, you're going down
